Yag Laser
Is it possible for a laser beam to kill someone?
Or is this just sci-fi nonsense? Are there any existing high powered lasers, such as industrial CO2 lasers in the kw range, that could drill holes in or slice up a hapless victim (this assumes the person would be unable to get out of the way of the beam, tied down kinda like 007 in the old James Bond movie "Goldfinger")? Would it cut arms and legs off like the lightsabers in "Starwars"?
In a laser processing shop where I worked a man had a fingertip completely vaporized by a 5kw laser, and another worker got a 300 watt YAG beam all the way thru the hand, so it would seem plausible.....(these were focused beams; unfocused beams just burned people)
What about weapons-grade lasers powered in the 100+ kw range? What would a beam from one of those do to someone misfortunate enough to be in the path of a focused beam?
if it can burn through the hand, it can burn through the chest, the only question is how long will it take.
FYI, Military are working on putting a laser into Boeing 747 to shoot down ICBM's from tens of miles away. I am pretty sure this would fry a human in no time. The only catch is that it takes a Boeing 747 to carry that baby.

| | Laser Desorption from a Room Temperature Ionic Liquid. $115.71 We report laser desorption from a Room Temperature Ionic Liquid (RTIL) as a novel source for time of flight mass spectrometry. We use the 2nd harmonic of an Nd: YAG laser to deposit intensities of 150 MW/cm2 via backside illumination onto our RTIL desorption sample. A microstructured metal grid situated on top of a glass microscope slide coated with RTIL serves as our desorption sample. The RTIL we use, 1Butyl, 3Methylimidazolium Hexafluorophosphate, remains liquid at pressures below 108 torr. The use of liquid desorption sample allows for improved surface conditions, homogeneity and sample life as compared to Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization (MALDI) techniques. Our desorption technique is also unique as it allows the study of both multiphoton and acoustic desorption processes within the same time of flight spectra. Our technique yields intrinsically high resolution, low noise data. We observe differences between ion species in their preference for desorption by a particular desorption method. ALMA SOPRANO LASER HAIR REMOVALvs ND YAG LASER?
Have anyone received Alma Soprano laser hair removal treament? How was the result? Which one is effective laser hair removal Soprano or ND YAG????? Please let me know your experience?
At my clinic they have 2 machines. The regular (I guess YAG) and the soprano (they just call it the soprano). I've had one treatment with each and I think the soprano works better. I saw more fallout after being treated with it but it hurt a lot more =(
