removing writing from stone?
i have these two hand size stones. one of them is granite, and the other is bronze and there each as thick as a book. they each have something engraved on them and i want to like somehow get rid of the writing and write my own little thing. i have the tools to write what i want but the problem is i dont know what to use to get rid of the writing thats already there. this is a gift for my grandfather who is also my bestfriend, i would rather not take it somewhere where they do it and would like to do it myself. i found a site too with alot of tools but i dont really know which or what to use. please help me thanks.

Granite is a very hard stone. If you have never worked in stone, then you are in for a shock in how difficult it is.
You will need to remove the current writing using either a grinder or a flat chisel.
To add your own saying will take a lot of strength and precision to get it correct. When you tap the stone, the cut may not do what you want it to.
If you work in stone you should use safety glasses with a face shield over it. You will probably need to use a dust respirator (not something that you buy at the dollar store).
Bronze is not stone. You work that differently. Generally bronze is cast into a mold to get the image on the tablet.
I would recommend that you do not do it yourself, but if it is that important to you, take some classes so you know what you are doing.
