how can I make a 12 volt step down?
I am making sodium chlorate with two carbon rods. And I need 5 volts but I only have a 12 volt at 6 amps battery charger. I know how to step down the voltage but i don't know how to keep the current at the same level. Does anyone know how to make a simple circuit that could do that using capacitors, resistors, diodes etc. Pleas Pleas Pleas just answer the question and don't say things like , THATS NOT SAFE or talking about the cell and not what I am asking. The most "proper" way would be you get yourself a IC called PT6625 from Texas Instruments, and connect it like so (circuit on bottom of the page): http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/power-supplies/47444-5-5v-2-2w-power-supply.html
You could also utilize the forward voltage loss of silicon diodes, and solder 10 of those in series, to get 12 - (10 * 0.7) = 5 Volt at the other end.
Those diodes must have a forward current of min. 6 Amp. (better 10A).
A resistor would get too hot, and does not give you a stable current.
You don't need a capacitor for just charging a battery (the battery IS one heck of a capacitor in itself).

What common gas other than Xenon could I use as a ionisation medium for a cat's whisker quarts radio crystal ?
I have made a radio crystal by cuting a quarts crystal in slivers lengthwase. I then made the cats whisker about one inch long from bronze welding rod and mounted both cats whisker and a slice of crystal on a thick piece of plastic. I then cut the element part out of a car headlamp to get a bulb. I then made hydrogen gas by using the Hoffman voltaic electrolisis proses. I inserted the gas into the bulb under water and then plugged it with the plastic disc on which the crystal and cats whisker was mounted, making provision for the anode and cathode wires to come out the bottom. I found that it does work as a diode but it has a very high electrical resistance which is unsatisfactory. I must either increase the hydrogen preasure to 3 atmospheres or use another gas that will cause ionisation. I could use a bicycle pump on a mounted bicycle valve but what bulb will withstand this preasure? I cannot obtain Xenon gas, so what other gas could I use as a alternative?
I am inclined to suggest, merely suggest with no proven accuracy to the outcome, but I am inclined to think, based merely on pure speculation, that the gas you would most likely find to be successful in your endeavor, to be...uh...what was the question again?
Oh, yes...use the kind of gas that is used when MIG welding. It creates a 'zone' to properly form the weld by removing crap from the immediate area at the bonding moment.
I got mine back from Microsoft that why too. I sent over 100 consoles into MS for free repair. About 5 of them have come back unfixed and with this error. I just put the board in the microwave and fry everything. Then swap the board out in a console that doesnt have the warranty void.
