What is the best material to cover a cage with?

We need to keep our cage covered because my mother needs the lights on a night because our apartment has the light switches in odd places and my mother uses the bathroom a few times a night and my mother has hot flashes/night sweats so she needs the air on high.

I have the cage in a warm area but I still want to keep the cage covered to protect the bird and let him get enough sleep. What is the best material? Our cage is too large for towels. We do have a micro-fleece blanket. Will that work?

i would try to get something thin, so he doesnt overheat. something the thickness of a sheet or maybe a teeny tiny bit heavier would do the job keeping the draft out. i would try to get a dark colored (whatever you are using to cover the cage with) one so not much light gets in. idk what size cage you are using, but you could most likely sew together a nice cover out of something like a sheet, so it looks nice. at places like drs. foster and smith, they have actual cage covers, but it would be alot cheaper to make one yourself, there isnt much to it!

My three daughters 8,5 and 3 were all crying because our dogs broke into our house and pulled down the gunea pig cage they didn't see it dead on the floor because the lights were off so my husband and I disposed of her and he went out and bought them one very much like her only a baby. So after dealing with three hours of crying and they wouldnt eat I told them we found their gunea pig but the dogs licked off the chocolate color that was on her face and she lost alot of weight so shes much smaller and they believed me and their not sad anymore..I on the other hand am horribly sad that my dogs did this...
Oh! I forgot to say they already learned a hard lesson when our American Bulldog killed our cocker spaniel after 4 years of them being housemates so they already learned the death thing.. I dont want them to have to learn any more

I think it is a personal decision but I would have done what you did. That was a very clever story by the way. I don't see anything wrong with it. It isn't hurting anyone and eased their pain.
