Plaque Engraving Wording

Can't think of a good quote or wording to put on a plaque with relatives medals please help!?

I have been left four medals from WWII from a close relative, he was a very proud man and obviously very proud of them. I am arranging to have them framed along with a picture of him and his wife, a ration book and his service book. I wanted to get an engraved plaque for it but just writing his name, when he was born and when he died seemed a little bit cold. I wanted to find a quote about war and love something that would commemorate what he did and show how proud I am. But I can't think of anything original and all the quotes I find seem to be anti-war, any ideas??
Sorry I really liked all your answers especially the last one! But probably should of mentioned that in the UK and not american don't think he would of liked the declaration of independence under his medals he was English and very proud to be so.

Usually such tributes to military personnel (ones with medals and other military memorabilia) exclude pictures of family. May I suggest that if you're making this something of a military tribute to the gentleman, if you're posting a picture of him with his wife, make sure the picture is one of him in uniform. That removes any doubt as to which one earned the honors displayed. At least, below the picture have the caption, "Colonel John Smith, US Army (Ret) and his wife Sue"

Also, if you're displaying his medals, it's important to display them properly. There's a precedence... a specific order in which they're supposed to be displayed. You can order them in a display case with the medals properly displayed, or you can find the precedence on the Internet.

What do these words mean? Ego sum custos engraved on a plaque?

A small molded wall plaque shaped like a church window - could be ivory, but I'm pretty sure it is plastic. It depicts Christ with his arms extended. To His one side is a mother with son and to the right is a father and daughter - the parents are facing Christ and kneeling (I am assuming the relationships). The words "Ego sum custos" are imprinted below the scene. Above Christ's head are the initials IHS (Jesus in Greek) .(The 1st letter could be an E or C, or maybe even Ergo(?) - actually looks like 2 letters together.

Ergo sum custos = Because (or therefore) I am the keeper (or guardian).
