Metal Engraving Sets
Bringing stainless steel jewelry on a plane?
I'm going on a trip to see my sister for her birthday on July 3rd. I bought her a stainless steel engraved ring. Would it be best to Carry the ring in my carry-on, checked baggage, or in my pocket? I don't really want to set off the metal detector. The ring was only 60 dollars but I still don't want it to get stolen or lost somehow. Where should I put it?
In your checked bag would be fine. If you put it in your pocket, it may or may not set off the metal detector depending on how sensitive it is. I fly about 3 times a month and always have 2 or 3 rings on plus my watch. Right before the security checkpoint, I always put them in the front zipper pocket of my roll-aboard or sometimes in my backpack, and then put them back on afterward. I hope this helps.

Don't buy an engraved pen until you read this
Engraved pens are great gift items or company give-a-ways, but how do you know you are getting a quality product. I will describe a few features to look for when making your next purchase of engraved pens.
Setting Mechanism
This feature is found on twist action engraved pens. As you twist the pen to the open position with the ink tip pointed upwards, the ink should extend out of the barrel and then settle back down slightly. It is this feature that keeps the ink from rolling back inside as you write.
Metal Inner Parts
When you open the pen up to change the ink the refill should screw into a metal part rather than plastic to avoid stripping. The refill can be plastic as they are changed frequently. If the pen is a roller-ball style then be sure the parts are metal there as well.
Ink Refill
Be sure the ink refill is a type that can easily be found for replacement. The standard refills that can be found in the office supply store are your best bet.
Pen Warranty
There are many pens that come with a warranty on the craftsmanship. When the company is willing to stand behind their product they typically make a better product so they won't be replacing too many of their products.
There are other features of course that make a pen high quality including a quality paint and solid construction of the clip, nose clip, center ring, etc.
