| | Accounting Machine $79.66 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles An accounting machine, or bookkeeping machine or recordingadder, was generally a calculator and printer combination tailored for a specific commercial activity such as billing, payroll, or ledger. Accounting machines were widespread from the early 1900s to 1980s, but were rendered obsolete by the availability of lowcost computers such as the IBM PC. This type of machine is generally distinct from unit record equipment (some unit record machines were also called accounting machines). | | Machine Vision $82.85 Machine vision is the application of computer vision to industry and manufacturing. Whereas computer vision is the general discipline of making computers, machine vision, being an engineering discipline, is interested in digital input/output devices and computer networks to control other manufacturing equipment such as robotic arms and equipment to eject defective products. Machine Vision is a subfield of engineering that is related to computer science, optics, mechanical engineering, and industrial automation. One of the most common applications of Machine Vision is the inspection of manufactured goods such as semiconductor chips, automobiles, food and pharmaceuticals. Just as human inspectors working on assembly lines visually inspect parts to judge the quality of workmanship, so machine vision systems use digital cameras, smart cameras and image processing software to perform similar inspections. CNC MACHINES, AUTOMATED LINES
What machine(s)/Equipment will I need to be able to do Custom engraving on firearms, preferably by computer?
I have decent knowledge about firearms, but I just don't know specifics types or makes and models of machinery I would need to get into a venture like this, It is something I would enjoy doing and maybe start a small business with it if i can turn out some quality work, but for starters it would be as a hobby. dont tell me its not possible by computer, yeah i know about old school methods. its cool, but using CNC technology you can pretty much engrave anything, i just need to know what machinery is best. No matter how much practice you have, you cant beat CNC.
anyways, anyone else?
oh, and dont call me kid.
You can apprentice as a firearms engraver for many, many years and still never be a master engraver. This stuff isn't done by a computer kid - it's normally all done by hand since metal has grain - just as different cuts of meat have grain, so do different metals.
You can buy the basic tools from Brownell's online - and books - but there is no substitute for actual practice.
First off - you need to find someplace that has allot of examples you can inspect. Museum is best - or a private collecton - or find an engraver that will show you his works in progress and completed works.
Firearms engraving is actually a thing of the past. Like a tatoo - they seem like a cool idea when you get it - but - years later you are really sorry to have it since it destroys the guns value.......... unless it is something like gold inlay and the design is still in style.
Try tracking down the people who do the engraving on the Ducks Unlimited rifles they raffle off - or similar type of raffles - and contact them. This might be worth a road trip to you. Write a nice letter, email, call - see if you can arraige to spend a day or two to watch their skilled engravers at work. Talk to the people who do it - see what they think......... and especially find out how they began and practiced until good enough to be hired.
hope this helps!
