Laser Marking Stainless Steel

cheaper for writing on stainless steel: laser marking or screenprinting?

I need to know what's cheaper to write on 300 stainless steel:
Is ink more clear than laser marking (CO2 or NdYAG)?
Generally speaking, which method is cheaper?
any other info you can provide on either process (advantages/disadvantages) would be appreciated.

After the initial investment, laser printing would require no ink or templates and less maintenance in the long run. The laser printing would also be absolutely permanent.
Screen printing, on the other hand, could utilize color and would be more easily read.
For my two cents worth, if the markings are intended to be permanent and nearly impossible to alter or remove, I'd go with the laser. If the markings are intended to be somewhat of a logo and more aesthetic, screen printing.
