What Mw is required to set stuff on fire?
Im making a high powered laser module hopefully. I have already designed and tested the circuit on a crappy laser diode. What "mw" laser diode will i need to set things on fire like matches and paper and hairs? lol. Anyways, all answers muchly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
yes, sorry i do mean mW ofcourse MW would be extreme. lol. SO anything 50mW and above would be able to set things on fire?
I think you mean mW, not MW, they are very different.
You should know that lasers of this power (probably 50-100mW) are very dangerous. A chance reflection off a shiny object can hit your eye, or someone else's and cause permanent eye damage. Always use the proper eye protection, for you and everyone else in the room, and never use it in a room with windows. Keep it locked up.

What's the best laser diode protection circuit I can make with just resistors and capacitors?
So I bought a 240mw red laser diode from a burner, and an AixiZ module. I have a 2 cell battery holder, or a 3 cell flashlight. I have a ton of resistors and a few capacitors, no LM317s or anything, so my guess it I'm stuck with the 2 cell battery holder, but using just caps and resistors, how should I wire it to maximize life?
I want it to be at least 150MW...
put the biggest resistor you can between the diode and the batteries. That reduces the current and will increase life.
