How much does a $1. bill cost the treasury per year to circulate as opposed to a $1. coin?

A piece of paper currency must be removed from circullation and returned for destruction when it is worn and torn. The cost of transport, security, engraving new plates, the paper, printing and circullation must be staggering. Coins, on the other hand, stay in circullation longer.

The cost of producing a dollar coin is 8-cents each, while the cost of producing a dollar bill is 3.8-cents each. So, it costs, more than twice as much to produce a coin as it does a bill. However, a dollar bill has the life span of approx. 18 months, as opposed to a dollar coin whose life span is approx. 30 years. So, the increased cost of producing coins is greatly offset by the cost to replace the dollar bills every 18 months.

This is from a report I found from 1995. The actual cost today may be higher, should be proportionally the same. The same report estimated that saving of $200 million per year could be realized with conversion to a dollar coin.

However, the American public still has not embraced a dollar coin. Without the government simply stopping production of the dollar bill and replacing it with a dollar coin, we probably will never see the American public accepting it. Of course, with the ever growing us of electronic currency you may see all money eliminated before you would ever see the dollar bill replace by a dollar coin.

using the quran and Allah's names as amulets..allowed?

If one uses verses from the Qur'an as an amulet, does this fall under major shirk? Also if one uses Allah's names engraved on something e.g. a piece of gold and they use this as an amulet, does this fall under shirk? I know things like using hands or an eye or paper that has writing on it and the writing doesn't make sense is all major shirk but do the other two fall under major shirk also?
