What is the metaphor in the poem 'Dream within a dream' by Edger Allan Poe?

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

This is a metaphor for grief. Poe lost his mother, his step mother, his wife and probably others that left him all alone. Someone wrote that he would sleep on the grave of his wife at night. He often grieves over the loses of relatives in his poems. In the very first sentence, he's kissing his wife goodbye after she has died, and he's distraught feeling that life is unreal, as a dream in a dream.

Often people in shock from relatives dying have deep insights into Truth, which I think Poe must have had. It's like stopping your mind through meditation.

The dream in a dream can be looked at as God's dream of creation, which is a mystic's vision, and the human dream of their life, such as family, home, society, the values that humans, who view God's dream as real and project onto that what they think is reality and their life thereby creating another dream.

Then in the second stanza he lets go with his grief wondering why God wouldn't give him the power to hold onto the grains of sand (a metaphor for relatives he's lost) that slide through his fingers to the ocean, the ocean is another metaphor for infinity, or God's infinite existence.

What is the easiest way to edge a lawn? Using a weed whacker or using an edger?

I am trying to decide whether to purchase a weed whacker or an actual "edger" for trimming lawn. In the past, I have always used an edger--however, my new lawn has a side that adjacent to a dirt planter. It seems like a weed whacker is the only way to get to it---but does it produce a straight enough line? Do you have to have a very steady hand?

I think a edger does give a much cleaner cut but a weed whacker is more versatile. In reality you should probably have both.
