how are these lasers built?

I read about ERBIUM laser or fraxel CO2. What is that supposed to mean? Does that mean that while other lasers are just diodes that emit light/laser at certain wavelength, the fraxel CO2 has diodes that emits a laser generated in conjunction with CO2? What is the difference between a laser and a CO2 laser?

lasers arent just diodes, the diode laser is a special type.
Gas lasers mostly use a glass tube filled with a gas mixture at low pressure - a bit like a fluorescent tube lamp. The light is reflected along the tube by silvered mirrors at each end. When the laser is triggered the light is let out in a powerful burst.
