Dremel Tool Engraving Bit?

Is there a special trick to using this bit? Every time I try to use it, the bit skips around on the metal surface I am working on. I have only used it in the dremel tool with a simple on/off switch, I haven't used an adjustable speed one because I don't own one. I could probably borrow one if this model is needed instead.

I am trying to add some letters and numbers to a piece of sheet steel. The steel is not heat treated so it is in soft form. It is 4130, if that helps.
Both of these sound like good ideas, I wish I would have thought of those. I think I will practice again on another junk piece using these. I do have a scratch awl and centering punches laying around that I could start with, or possibly just do the whole thing with.

My husband suggest that you try making a more of a shallow cut or use a non electric engraver first.

Dremel Tool for Saw work?

My husband just got me the Dremel tool from woot.com for christmas. It's the dremel 1130 duo pack. I'm familiar with all of the typical Dremel stuff(buffing, detail, engraving, sanding).

But there is one hobby I have. Making dollhouse goods out of polymer and air dry clay. So what I am wanting to do is slice little dollhouse loaves of bread made of Crayola Model Magic. It's a bit too firm for a razor blade to make a consistant clean cut.

I'd like to get an attachment for cutting. There are saw like tools for the XPS (http://www.amazon.com/Dremel-670-Mini-Saw-Attachment/dp/B00008Z9ZP)

Is there an easy way for me to use a dremel to cut through a bit of dried clay?

yes, dremel and other rotary tool manufacturers sell a rotary cutter, usually carbide, to fit your saw. Works well. I have even used it to cut ceramic tile. Make sure the shank size of the bit will fit the collet on your dremel.
