Unlike so many so-called "instruction manuals" The Art of Engraving does not assume you know anything about engraving. You start at the beginning by learning to draw scrolls and layouts then cut practice plates until you are sure enough of your ability to actually proceed to designing a pattern t Mfg: Brownells

Parents 30th wed/ann what kind of a group gift from the 'party' to my folks/and how do I ask people?
My parents wedding ann. is a week from today. last minute we are putting together a little party, its going to be my uncles who play guitar and have a professional sound system, and all the family. My mom was saying how it would be nice to kind of do a 'group' gift, and to have it engraved. What would be a good way to ask people to chip in? (word for word) not sure what to say. I was thinking to have everyone chip in around 5-10 dollars whats a good way to say this.........??? Thanks, and also do you have any good ideas for gifts?? (that could be engraved??) Thanks everyone!!
A platter with the words engraved. A picture of everyone at the party set up by someone in the group or a photographer hired and then have the date scrolled on it and framed. A weekend away at some great resort. or a week away depending on how much you think you would get from the family members. A theatrical show. Tickets can run $100 a piece. Maybe a new fridge or stove or something they need, if there is anything.
word for word..............You are invited to a 30th wedding anniversary, for Mr and Mrs so and so, and in lieu of gifts, a donation of X number of dollars would be appreciated in an envelope to me for a "whatever you are chosing" to give them Depending on how many people are going to be there. Try to emphasize that the money is given to you so it is not put in the card for them. Having cards from everyone would be nice as some people like to save them. Or get one huge large card and have then sign it as you collect the money. That takes all the burden off your guests for any shopping. 5 - 10 is pretty low, you could easily get $20 I am sure.
