What should I know about making an SBR?

I want to file a Form 1 with the BATF and turn my LMT lower into a SBR. This will be my first time trying this. I understand that It will cost $200 and there will be a waiting period for the stamp, however, I have also heard something about having to engrave the receiver as if I was the manufacturer. Can anyone with experience with SBR-ifi-ing a rifle give me some tips about getting this done. I would be doing it under my living trust if that makes any difference.

You will need to engrave the name of the trust, and the city and state it is in when you make it an SBR. I would have the engraving done before you send in the paperwork. That way it is just a regular rifle receiver and anyone can do the engraving. Once the paperwork is done, then it is an NFA weapon and has to be transferred to the engraver and back to you.

The engraving can be located anywhere on the receiver where it will be visible without disassembly. ATF requires that the engraving be a minimum depth of .003 inches and no smaller than 1/16 inch. Laser engraving is not acceptable to ATF
