Engraving Knife Handles
I just found some sort of tool that looks like a giant butter knife...what is it?
Okay, so I was walking my dog and found this metal knife looking thing. It isn't sharp at all and it has a handle wrapped in leather like a tennis raquet and it has a knuckle guard like a sword. Also has a butterfly engraved on the bottom of each side of the blade. What in the world is this?

What kind of Knife is this?
I recently cleaned up a knife that looks similar to a KA-BAR combat knife or similar to it. It only says "Soling" and under that it says "Japan". This is engraved at the bottom of the blade towards the hilt. It has a distinct raised half inch bar of metal at the bottom of the handle. The handle seems to be wrapped in tight leather or a rubber substitute but feels more like Leather. Any ideas on what this is?
According to a knife seller on ebay, its a japanese hunting knife. Google "japan soling knife", should be the second link.
"The knife you are viewing is a unique Soling Japan Hunting Knife. This is a quality knife and bears a remarkable similarity to our "Western" hunting knife made in Boulder, Colorado. This knife is in excellent condition but has been customized by a knife smith. The handle has been replaced with polished bone and is held with copper rivets. Its age is estimated at circa 1965. It has the following specifications: Overall length -- 9 inches; Blade length -- 4-3/4 inches; Blade material -- carbon steel; Blade thickness -- almost 3/16 inch at the guard; Handle -- genuine bone; Pommel -- aluminum alloy and the Guard is brass. This knife is tight and razor sharp - a great skinner to have on your belt this hunting season."
