Engraving Guitar Picks

How would a sterling silver plectrum/guitar pick sound on an acoustic guitar?

For my fiance, as a way of proposing back at him, I'm ordering a sterling silver engraved guitar pick. Yes, I know it will get scratched. What's the point of fine china if you don't use it on the people you love, or in this case, doing something you love?

I have heard the it will wear out the strings a bit faster, and if he accidentally scratches the guitar he might be screwed, but I'm not worried about that-this guitar was fairly cheap but it excellent to practice on.

I just need to know the difference in sound that comes with using metal guitar picks. Thanks!

Well, it will be a very hard hitting in-your-face type sound, not soft like a nylon pick. It definitely wont be good for strumming and wont be kind to strings, but I know several guitar players that use brass/steel picks for playing very fast lead stuff (mind you I play/listen to metal and these guys play electrics). All depends on user preference. Whether or not he likes to play with it, im sure he would like it as a gift. I would like it myself so :p

edit: just a response to what the above guy said about thick picks, it all depends what you play. I cant stand to use thin picks, they flop around and arent good for lead playing at all. 1mm tortex picks for me :p
