Is it ok to make my own invitations?

I decided to try to make my own wedding invitations because I just can't bring myself to pay hundreds of dollars for what is basically paper. I mean I figured the whole point of an invitation is just to get the word on time and stuff (and kind of set the tone). So I bought very nice quality textured paper, found a good font and the perfect color ink to match my wedding and printed them out. I think they look good. Then I started reading way too many bridal magazines and now Im worried that it's "not appropriate" to make your own invitations. Would you think an invitation that wasn't engraved or letterpress or calligraphy was cheap and stupid?

Do your own. That's great.

When I received invitations made by the family of the bride, I thought they were just great, because they were truly what the bride (and groom) wanted.

You had the right idea!

Did you like the invites before looking at bridal mags? If yes, then stick with it.

C'mon, you know that publications are all about marketing--especially bridal magazines.

You smart girl, you beat them at the game. Way to go!

http://www.godiva.com/catalog/product.aspx?id=1349&SE_Section=Shop&SE_Category=89 < the chocolate squares with swirly designs on them

They aren't really separate from the chocolate itself, nor are they engraved into the chocolate. It's almost like they took pens and colored the designs onto the chocolates. The patterns are completely edible and are of chocolate too. So I was curious as to how they got the patterns on them.

They're called transfer sheets. They have designs on them and when you lay them on the chocolate, they transfer off onto the chocolate. They are not used when warm, contrary to answerer 1's answer. They are actually used when the chocolate is cool. Otherwise, the chocolates would have no shape.

If you want to buy them, you can get them at cake/baker's stores, craft stores like Michael's, or order them online for the best selection.
