Engraving Blocks RELIGION IN GOVERNMENT & ATHEISTS?????
I asked this question the other night but the answers sucked:
America's largest group of atheists and agnostics filed a lawsuit Tuesday seeking to block an architect from engraving "In God We Trust" and the Pledge of Allegiance at the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington. Is this atheists way of rewriting history? Is this proclamation of faith exercising religious freedom and is that not protected by the Constitution?
No, it isn't. If you knew your history, you'd know that "In God We Trust" was first added to coins after a religious resurgence during the Civil War. Basically, a minister requested it. It was later put on all currency after the McCarthy communist paranoia.
It's not a statement of religious freedom. In fact, it was originally intended to impose Christianity in government.
The change to the Pledge of Allegiance was also changed during the McCarthy era. It was also inserted, ironically between "our country" and "indivisible", in order to push religion.
Sorry, but both attempts to push religion in government actually act against religious freedom. Our founding fathers understood this. Unfortunately, later leaders didn't have that same wisdom.
