can you please give me some info on butters seal engravers george st edinburgh 1838-1844?
Laurence Butters engraved seals made of metal, stone etc. and worked on crests and coats of arms for publishers. He was "Seal Engraver to the Queen in Scotland" or "Seal Engraver in Ordinary to Her Majesty" and advertised "Official seals designed and engraved with the greatest correctness and armorial bearings painted on vellum or paper".
He advertised "attention to Heraldic correctness". He revised Fairbairn's "Crests of the Families of Great Britain and Ireland".
