how do i get a laser diode?

i want to build a burning laser (not like a realy big one like one that is about 10 inches long), i do not care what color it is, but i want it to burn stuff like at least be enough to light a match or fire work fuse. i have an old playstation 1 and i only have like 1 game that sucks so i have no use for it and i was wondering if i could take it apart and would i find a laser diode that i could atatch to a driver ( btw how do i do that?) and all the parts ( what are the parts i need, nothing to complicated please). i also have a little black etec dvd player that i took apart for the laser diode ( it stoped working =[) and i found what looks like it should be the laser diode but i have no idea how to get to it any further, what should i do next? should i go with the dvd player or the playstation 1? wich will be better? i will vote u the best answer if your answer is what im looking for.

The album opens with "Words of Love," a sappy but infectious love song like those from the American Bandstand days, whose catchy rhythm ricochets into a fiery guitar solo. Kanako's guitar has a cool, slinky spy theme sound in "Diode City" and a surf flavor on "Tell No Tale." Their cover of "I Wonder," previously recorded by the Ronettes and the Crystals, retains the crooning backing harmonies, but Spike's vocals have some of the atonal zest of Poly Styrene from X-Ray Spex. Microwave diode wire broke?

I have a Whirlpool microwave that I'm slowly "purchasing" part by part (not by intention!). I've spent so much on parts already that it's almost become a personal thing. I replaced the capacitor (twice!), the magnetron and in the process, broke the wire coming out of the diode (to ground). That little darn part is $36 from Whirlpool (plus shipping of course). There's about a 1/64 inch "nub" of wire poking out of the diode. Can I file back a 1/4 inch or so and solder the wire back on? If I can do this, will a damp rag wrapped around the plastic diode prevent damage? The diode still tests "good" (part no. 4359639 if it matters) so I hate to pitch it and I really hate to put any more money in parts for this oven! Any help would be greatly appreciated. That being said, I'd seriously think about trying to remove that insulation, there are some very high voltages inside a microwave that will give someone a rather nasty shock should they come in contact with them.

If you should try and solder to the diode, it's not only the insulation melting that you have to worry about. The heat could damage the diode itself, so once you are done soldering, test the diode again, keeping in mind that even though it may test good with an ohmmeter, that really doesn't mean it's going to work in the circuit.
