does anyone know about desktop laser engravers?

Just retired and want to start hobby/small business. Saw a couple personalizing leather & plastic items at a crafts show. Researched online and found these things range from $1500 to $10,000 and all sound the same. Salespeople only helpful if they can make the sale. Anyone use one of these? Any suggestions?

i used one on my chest before, it dd not turn out so well. dont use it on your skin, it does not work
