Building Guitar Body, Routing Specifications for Hardware and Pickup Cavities and Questions About Wood.?
Well I created a design and i'm going to build a body from a piece mahogany. I was wondering if gluing a few pieces of mahogany to get the required depth would make a sound difference, or change the value, if instead I used one solid piece. I also would to know some specs about the neck cavities, the pickup cavities, the hole for the floyd rose, and the hole on the back for hardware.
I will be using Seymour Duncan Blackout Active Humbuckers, and I'm not sure about which neck or which Floyd Rose I'll be using yet, but I will be using Les Paul style volume and tone controls.
Also I am using a CNC Machine at a professional wood shop.
Typically one piece body is used to increase the natural sustain since the vibration does not get damped out (which happens in laminated buildups as you go from one layer, through the glue, into another layer, etc.).
One you have your other stufff picked out, you can usually go to the manufacturer's site for dimensions, etc. or contact them and they'll provide.

Can my dad make me a guitar?
My dad works at a wood shop and has access to a CNC router. could he make me a guitar body with it? I have an Ibanez Mikro and don't really like it. Could hes just make one with the correct neck holes and the correct pickup holes? And could I then wire it up and just use it?

By the way, I am pretty sure he has access to all kinds of wood. And this is for electric by the way.
The hard thing about wood/string instruments is what materials you use. Every detail down to how much it is sounded and what kind of wood it is will make a difference. I'm sure it would be a great experiment though! Try looking around on google.com to see what kind of wood makes up acoustic (I assume) guitars.
