Blank Engraving Plates

Where or how can I find a blank full sized 5" 1911A1 slide for engraving and nickel plating?

I'm looking for a slide for a nickeled 1911A1 that I can get engraved with scroll design and have nickel plated to replace the slide of this Cimarron 1911a1 that is already nickel plated. If not possible, am I going to have to get a slide with no finish and have words shaved and smoothed off so I can have a blank space for the engraving? Trying to see what options I have in making this gun possible to make. I'm trying to replicate this gun from the show Supernatural. Thanks for your input.

First off... changing a slide on ANY 1911 pistol requires fitting the slide to the pistol. Plus --- you need to get the ejector, extractor and firing pin and firing pin stop fitted to the bare slide ... and get the bushing fitted to the slide and barrel. And 1911's have some fitting to get the link, and barrel locking lugs to work in the new slide.... plus you need to add a set of sights (most bare slides need some work to mount those too)

Engraving is generally done "before" the nickel plate is applied. Last I looked a bare slide and parts for a 1911 sat me back about $400 bucks... and I tied up a couple of weekends fitting up the pieces to the slide and the slide to the frame.

Oh.... bring another bag-0-cash for the grip panels.... I just don't see the upside. Toss the same cash into a good frame and build a "ugly" reliable gun for carry or competition...

Getting the engraving done? Who knows what that costs.
Plating the slide... and probably re- plating the rest of the gun...At leat $3 c notes.

So-- you will have at least $700 tied up in a $500 pistol ...your money...your ego... think about it.
