Antique Engraving Plates

How much are my antique german scissors worth?

Hi!
I have a pair of antique scissors that are 10" long. They're either silver or silver-plated (most likely?) No fancy etchings on them, just what I think is an engraved monogram: "CSC". On the other side it just says, "L-10 Germany". The larger of the finger holes only takes up 2 1/4" of the whole 10" length. The rest is blade! Any idea what these are worth? I can't find any reference to them anywhere online.

What chemicals are used to "antique" silver?

I recently bought a lighter with a nice faux-antique silver plate finish, but when I had it engraved the moron polished the damn finish off. I would like to restore it, or even take it a step further (I'm quite fond of the dirty look - I just don't want to take the silver plate off).

These are things I've tried, so do not mention them:
Saltwater
Vineagar/Lemon Juice
If anyone also knows what would do the same thing to brass, copper and or other finishes I'd like to do the same to some of my other lighter.

Both 1 and 2 offer valid suggestions. I'm curious to know if you've tried a general search in the WWW,,,no offense meant at all.
