Is it worth it to have a hand engraved Tiffany piece or machine engraved?
I'm a clueless boyfriend looking to purchase a Tiffany bracelet and charm for my girlfriend. I have everything picked out, but I see I can either have it hand engraved or machine. I've learned that the hand engraved is guarenteed to last a lifetime, but I'm not sure if its just a ploy to get more money. I have no problem spending more money, I'm not cheap, but some feedback on whether or not its worth it would be appreciated. Thanks
hand engraving is nice, but it takes a long time is more expensive. i personally have all of my tiffanys jewelry machine engraved, and it works out just fine. the tiffany jewelers say that eventually machine engraving will wear off, but i think thats only with daily wear for several years. im sure your girlfriend will love the gift regardless. p.s. unless your girlfriend is a jewelry expert, she probably wont even be able to tell the difference between hand engraving and machine engraving. the only difference is that hand engraving is deeper set so theres no risk of it wearing off.

Due to the nature of the product, they are normally engraved and the engraving area tends to be small. That said, you would not want to ruin a posh silver clock by printed a screamingly loud logo on it. Such advertising is best left to less expensive products. Also, when you consider that these may be given away as a Christmas present, you do not want your gift to look like you are trying to sell to the receiver.
Other Metals: If you want something even more expensive, they are available. You will need to look around, however, as such clocks are not normally featured in business gift catalogs. If you invest a little time into searching, you are sure to find beautiful desk clocks manufactured in silver, gun metal and even gold. As these are normally engraved, you should be able to purchase them in small quantities which will of course keep the price down.

I am looking to buy an everyday type of household saw. I will be using it to cut some chair rail for my daughter's bedroom and some baseboards around the house. Should I puchase a laser Miter Saw ($114) OR should I buy a Circular Saw? I also want to be able to cut 2x4 wood in the future and use it as an everyday saw NOT just for cutting baseboards and chair rails.
Will a circular saw make 45 degree cuts for baseboards and chair rail? OR do I need to buy a miter saw to make these sorts of cuts?

If the trim is a one time and simple operation, get a little plastic or wooden miter saw guide and "back" saw. (a short, straight hand saw with a stiff back). Most householders will need a circular saw more often than a miter saw. You will spend very little on this manual miter saw, so you can get a circular saw as well. You will do a much better job on the trim with the manual miter saw than you can with a circular saw. The best thing about the circular saw is that you can cut planks and panels. You can only cut planks with a powered miter saw.

I've seen 150mW lasers that cut through electric tape and ignite wood from 20metres away, but then I see 240mW lasers that couldn't turn petrol-soaked paper into flame. Am I missing something here?
They've been in use for decades already. I work on aircraft and the first aircraft I worked on, the Jaguar, had a Laser Rangefinder and Target seeker equipped. It was a very accurate bit of kit.
I currently work on the Eurofighter Typhoon and once it is built it is laser scanned to ensure that the surface is absolutely perfect (i.e no uneven panels etc) Also, modern military aircraft have Laser Inertial Navigation systems, which are extremely accurate and involve no moving parts.
I assume that you are talking about using Lasers as hand held cutting tools? We're a bit behind on that one. The lasers that can cut materials are far too power-hungry and unwieldy to have any small scale practical use just yet, but we do use them for cutting on a larger scale. Technology is advancing and getting smaller everyday! It is almost inevitable that we will develop them in the future.

I visited a dermatologist for the first time due to concern on my face and as suspected, it's skin cancer. He didn't explain any treatment options but only told me he would do minor surgery to remove it and he drew a diagram of how the slices would go and where the scar might end up. Why do you suppose he didn't offer any other method of treatment? I am thinking he gets more $$ from the insurance company for surgery vs. cream or laser removal. I will call tomorrow to his office and ask why I wasn't notified of other available options. But I still wanted your input. Thanks!

Depends on who you believe. According to the Carr family (and if you get him off the record, Bruce Kulick) he was. I tend to believe that he was in this case, because it just sounds like something Paul and Gene would do.
